Air Transat

Air Transat is a Canadian airline based in Montreal. European regulation 261/2004 protects travelers from any late cancellation or denied boarding. It is applicable for the company for all its flights coming from the airports of the European Union.

The tool below is an effective solution to claim your rights quickly and receive compensation.

Cancellation: refund or re-routing?

Since 2004, the company must provide assistance and offer the choice between a refund and rerouting for any last-minute cancellations.
The traveler is also entitled to compensation between € 250 and € 600 for any cancellation not caused by exceptional conditions.
Indeed, the company is exempted from paying compensation if the cancellation is due to degraded weather conditions, a controller strike or other exceptional condition.

Overbooking: Requiring compensation

Denied boarding to certain travelers voluntarily or not is due to overbooking that the company practices to avoid empty places.
The company is obliged to inquire among its passengers to look for volunteers who will agree to exchange their reservations for some services.
It requires assistance that the company offers and the choice between a refund or rerouting. Travelers are entitled to compensation of up to € 600. They may also benefit from additional benefits such as upgrading.
Travelers are protected by European regulations, this gives them the right to claim compensation of up to € 600 for overbooking and denied boarding.

The delay and its conditions

The company must provide, in the event of a delay, assistance to its passengers according to the waiting time of passengers (refreshments, meals, telephone calls, accommodation, ...).
However, the company is not liable if the delay is caused by an extraordinary circumstance. Otherwise, the traveler can claim compensation up to € 600 for the delay of three hours or more.
The compensation depends on the flight: € 250 for the flight of up to 1500km, € 400 for the delay of up to 3500km and € 600 for the flight exceeding 3500km.

Missed Connecting Flight

"Missed connecting flight" is a very restrictive situation!
If only one company takes care of all the flights (flight with one or more stops), it will take care of its passengers with a re-routing towards the destination ... but if it is about several companies, the traveler will be perhaps in the obligation to pay fees to the second company to agree to exchange his flight! This is one of the requirements of the claim: The flights must appear on the same reservation
To claim compensation you must first check whether the cumulative delay is more than 3 hours, and that this is not due to extraordinary circumstances, passengers are eligible for compensation of up to € 600 for flights over 3500km.
